The Nine Ladies Stone Circle of Stanton Moor
This popular and well visited stone circle is best visited during extreme weather if you want to avoid the maddening crowds! I visited on a cold bleak and almost midwinters day and was lucky enough to have the circle to myself. Nearby tiny hidden Doll Tor Stone Circle is well worth a visit too as it's not as well known and tucked away neatly in a triangle of nearby woods across the other side of the main road.
The Nine(teen) Ladies
Where are the missing ladies?
Where on earth did they go?
Did they sink into the ground,
or melt away in the snow?
Where are the missing ladies?
Where are they currently hiding?
Did they climb onto horseback,
and venture into the distance riding?
Where are the missing ladies?
Where are the wayward sisters?
Did they go to visit their merry cousins,
and arrive in Cornwall with blisters?
Where are the missing ladies?
When did they decide to leave?
I don't know but the nine that remain
stand in a circle and grieve!
